General Information

Post offices and Banks

Post offices and banks Opening hours of most banks are from 09:00 to 16:30 on weekdays and 09:00 to 16:00 on weekends, which will be subject to slight change due to different banks and branches. Most of the post offices are open from 09:00 to 17:30. Reception desk of the hotel will be happy to deal with your mail requirements.
 

ATM

ATMs of different banks are open 24 hours a day and are available in hotel lobbies.
 

Safety and Security

In general, Hangzhou is a very safe city. However, participants are advised to purchase adequate travel and health insurance before leaving their own countries. The host of ISO/TC 45 meetings and its related events do not have any liability for personal accidents or injury or loss or damage to private property of any participant directly or indirectly arising from the travelling in China.
 

Emergency

In the event of emergency, please dial the toll-free number 110 to get connected with the police, fire brigade or hospitals. You can also contact security officers and staff member of your hotel or of the conference center.
 

Weather and Clothing

Hangzhou enjoys sub-tropical climate and has, in general 10˚C to 20˚C daily temperature in late October. The representatives are advised to bring with you autumn clothes like coats, jackets etc. However, meeting venues will all be air-conditioned for about 26˚C or a bit lower.
 

Currency and Credit Card

The currency of China is Renminbi (RMB, Chinese Yuan, CNY or ¥) and the value is pegged to the US dollar with a current exchange rate of US$ 1: RMB 6.4 (June 2018). For more details, please visit the website: http://www.boc.cn. Notes come in denominations of ¥100CNY, 50CNY, 20CNY, 10CNY, 5CNY and 1CNY.
 

Euros and US Dollars can be exchanged at any bank. The exchange rate is more or less the same across China.
 

Major credit cards, such as Master Card, Visa, American Express, Diners Club and JCB, are accepted at many establishments. And you can use such credit cards on ATMs for cash withdrawals, bank account checking and password changes, for which processing fees will be charged. The processing fees may differ according to different bank policies.
 

Attention: It is recommended to use Alipay in China, because it can be used almost anywhere, whether in upscale shopping malls or in corner shops.
 

Electricity

The electricity used in China is 220V 50Hz. Please note that plug adapters and converters might be required. The picture below is the plug used for electricity in China.
 


WIFI and Internet

Free high-speed wireless Internet will be accessible in almost all hotels.
 

Language

The official language is Mandarin, while English is widely taught in schools, universities. It is easy to find people who can speak English.
